Turkish Citizenship
Since 19 September 2018, the laws governing the acquisition of Turkish citizenship by foreigners have been amended. Under these changes, foreign nationals who meet any one of the following criteria through investment are eligible to apply for Turkish citizenship.
Eligibility Criteria
- —Making a real estate investment of at least $400,000 in Turkey, provided the property is not sold for 3 years (one or more properties may be combined — the total value is what matters).
- —Establishing or purchasing a company with a capital of $500,000 or more, provided it is not sold for 3 years.
- —Making an investment of $500,000 or more in government bonds or public banks, provided the funds are not withdrawn for 3 years.
About Real Estate Investment
The real estate investment must be made in accordance with Turkish laws and regulations. Foreigners may invest in residential properties, commercial buildings, land, or agricultural land to meet the requirements. When making this investment, the title deed (tapu) of the purchased property must be transferred into the buyer's name at the land registry office.
Application Requirements
To apply for Turkish citizenship, the applicant must hold a valid residence permit or blue card. A spouse and children under the age of 18 may apply together with the primary applicant. This means that only one family member needs to make the qualifying investment.
Required Documents
- —Passport
- —Residence permit or work permit
- —Photographs of the applicant
- —Birth certificate
- —Additional documents may be requested.
The applicant(s) must not pose a threat to Turkey's national security and must ensure the accuracy of all documents and information submitted during the application.
